ULCX240 Carbon TRA
The highest performance wheels in the TRA range. Many riders find their dream wheelset at the intersection of an i9 system chassis and a Reynolds carbon rim, and for those seeking a sublime ride experience, we’re pleased to offer this revelation. Mating our UL240 Carbon rim to the TRA chassis, this 1325g wonder defies gravity as deftly as it tracks through the serpentine turns of a ‘cross course or the long, hard milage of an off-road challenge ride.
The Torch Road Alloy performs in a space where a tarmac-focused wheelset might be overmatched, but a mountain wheelset would be overkill. Ideal scenarios for the TRA line-up would be in the CX start grid, fast moving, light-duty off-road explorations, or hammering out long days on Forest Service roads. The TRA chassis represents a confluence of the best characteristics from the Torch Mountain system wheelsets and the Torch Road disc platform - sturdy meets svelte. An all-new hubshell forms the foundation of the TRA chassis, allowing direct threading of the spokes to the hub; a long-standing and defining performance and durability element of Industry Nine mountain bike wheelsets. Compatible with all thru-axles and road drivetrains, the Center Lock specific hub is built off Industry Nine's established Torch Road Disc internals, so service and support parts are already present and available in the field.
Machined and anodized totally in-house, the Torch Road Alloy hubs accept 24 spokes laid out in a clever yet familiar 2:1 lacing pattern. By using a differential spoke count, TRA wheelsets are able to cut weight, and balance spoke tension, yet retain power-amplifying stiffness.
Securing the rim to the hub are Industry Nine's straight-pull aluminum spokes. The one-piece design integrates standard 14g wrench flats located outside of the rim to keep service intuitive, but eliminates the undersized traditional spoke nipple in favor of a more robust connection between hub and spoke. Directly tapping into the hubs courtesy of large, rolled threads the 2.9mm diameter spokes taper to 2.7mm as they exit the hub and approach the rim.
The Genesis of PillarCarbon
Our exclusive PillarCarbon rims use our TwinPillar hookless bead walls, are tubeless-ready, and offer excellent strength to weight ratio and ride quality characteristics. The PillarCarbon range represents the most advanced, no-compromise rims we have ever made - mated to our Torch hub and spoke chassis. For testing and manufacture, Industry Nine teamed up with one of the most respected and established companies in cycling composites technology, Reynolds Cycling.
PillarCarbon Rim Features
- Mountain Rim 5 (MR5) precision assembly assigns base fiber, epoxy resins and fiber orientation to each of the five specific rim regions - bead wall, tire channel, side wall, spoke bed and spoke face - resulting in superior stiffness, weight, impact resistance and spoke pull-through strength.
- Rim profiles and lay-up schedules are designed to maximize lateral stiffness but still allow controlled vertical deflection to increase traction and ride quality.
- Spoke holes feature angle-accurate orientation which minimizes spoke bed stress and promotes long term spoke durability.
TwinPillar No Hook bead walls
Increased inner rim widths and optimized hook heights achieve maximum tire performance at lower pressures. Near Net construction allows the bead wall to be fully formed during the molding process, eliminating post-mold machining which reduces risk of delamination and increases impact resistance. The TwinPillar bead walls are formed using continuous fibers wrapped around the top of the wall, further increasing strength and impact resistance.
Tubeless Ready and UST tires fit securely due to specific profile and diameter of bead shelf, which delivers excellent pressure retention and burp-free performance.

Industry Nine has gone the extra mile to ensure we offer the best carbon wheels available. We are so confident in our wheels that we are now offering a limited lifetime warranty on all wheelsets sold after January 1, 2018.
The limited lifetime warranty applies to all Industry Nine branded complete carbon wheelsets. Under the limited lifetime warranty, Industry Nine certifies all wheels to be free from defects in materials and workmanship* and applies to the original owner.**
Industry Nine carbon wheel systems are engineered to be ridden every day and are designed and tested to ensure the strength of the wheels far exceed the loads incurred during their intended use.*** You can rest assured that if you are on an Industry Nine Carbon wheelset, we have you covered.
*The warranty applies to all original owners who purchase their wheels from an Industry Nine Authorized Dealer or directly from Industry Nine; wheels purchased through third-party sites are excluded from the warranty.
**Keep in mind that wheels (as with most moving parts) require periodic maintenance and service. Bearings are considered a wear item and if properly serviced, should last several years, but are not covered under the lifetime warranty. The exception is our Enduro XD-15 Hybrid Ceramic bearings (which are an upgrade option). Any wheel that has been altered, improperly maintained or installed, or modified from its original build will not be eligible for this warranty.
***If you are riding the wheels within the scope of their designated use, we have you covered. If you hit a tree at 30mph or come up short on a double while riding your road bike at the bike park and break a wheel - we have a great crash replacement program.
